Fibromyalgia and TENSThe great majority of people with fibromyalgia complain of painful muscle stiffness (between 70% to 80% of FMS patients have this complaint) that usually begins and ends in the morning but which can sometimes last for hours.Similar in intensity to the discomfort felt by arthritis sufferers, this stiffness occurs in muscles, connective tissue such as tendons and ligaments, and also in various joints. Typically, the stiffness felt by fibromyalgia patients is localized in the extremities (hands, feet, arms, and legs) and in the lumbar, thoracic, and cervical regions of the back. Despite the similarities to arthritic complaints, however, neither fibromyalgia nor the pain and stiffness associated with it, involve any sort of degenerative joint or tissue changes. A tens unit can sometimes reduce pain levels for a fibromyalgia patient. A Tens unit uses electricity to block nerves from sending pain messages. Tens units are prescribed for chronic pain sufferers and fibromyalgia patients. Over the past six months I have sold machines to people with fibromyalgia and after speaking with and receiving emails the relief they get from using a TENS Machine is very positive. Only the sufferers know what pain they are going through and if a TENS machine helps with the pain then good. Fibromyalgia information courtesy of Disability Secrets.
