Child Birth and TENSInstructions for using LogiSTIM TN-11 for labourPlease read the TN-11 user's guide before operating your machine. The guide includes precautions, contraindications and warnings that you should fully understand to ensure safe operation of the unit during labour. Please note in the USA TENS can only be used with a doctors prescription. However in the AUS TENS has been safely and successfully used for childbirth for over 20 years. How TENS works during labour. Our machine settings below are formulated so you will receive optimum pain relief during the birth of your baby. Your machine will work in two ways. When you first start using the machine it will be on a low pulse rate- this setting will stimulate your body to produce endorphins which are the body's natural painkillers. Endorphins have a long lasting effect. It can take up to 45 minutes for the maximum endorphin build up so it is important to put your TENS unit on as soon as you start having regular contractions. The other way your TENS works during labour is by blocking the pain signals sent to your brain. This has a more immediate effect and works when your machine is on a high pulse rate. By pushing the PR+ button at the start of your contraction the pulse rate on the machine will be boosted up from a low setting to a high setting. Instructions for use during labour Getting started 1. Ensure the unit is switched off. Attach the end of each lead wire to the top of the machine at Channel 1 (CH1) and Channel 2 (CH2). 2. Connect the red and black pin connectors at the end of each lead wire to the upper and lower electrodes. 3. Apply the electrodes to your back. You are now ready to start using the machine. Using your TN-11 during labour 1.On first inserting batteries and switching on the TENS will be on CONST (Constant mode) which is the required mode for labour. 2. If your machine is on a different mode press the M button (top middle) until the mode returns to CONST. 3. Adjust Pulse Rate/Frequency (PR- button) to 2 Hz between contractions. 4. Adjust Pulse Width PW to 200uS. 5. Press Channel 1 and 2 until a pleasant intermittent tingling sensation is felt. These switches increase the amplitude or strength of the sensation. Horizontal bars will appear at the sides of the screen. 6. During a contraction press Pulse Rate (PR+ button) to increase to 150 Hz - the sensation will then be continuous. 7. At the end of the contraction press Pulse Rate again (PR- button) to decrease back to 2Hz. 8. As labour becomes more intense the amplitude CH1 and CH2 can be increased accordingly. 9. When your contractions are very strong and frequent (less than 2 minutes apart) you may wish to keep your machine at the high pulse rate setting.
