Latest NewsPain relief without the dreaded drugsWell I am here once again to bring you some more info on TENS. More and more people are turning to TENS machines to bring them pain relief. Back pain, especially sciatica is without doubt literally a pain in the bum. Having to depend on drugs that can often have unwanted side effects are the last resort or an operation to correct the problem. These small digital machines can be worn unobtrusively while carrying out normal day to day activities. For the people who have never heard of TENS, it is an acronym for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. Transcutaneous means through the skin, you place small electrodes on the point of pain or you can put them peripherally down the spine, in the case of sciatica, L4 and L5 is a good place to begin with. The TENS machine produces small electrical impulses which are transmitted from the machine through the skin to either acupuncture points by means of a wire connected to the electrode. TENS machines work in a two ways. The small electrical signal they transmit blocks pain signals from the bodys sensory nerves to the brain resulting in pain relief on high frequency. The signals generated by the TENS machines on low frequency can also encourage your body to release endorphins, your natural body pain reliever. Our TN11 TENS machine has three main program modes, Constant, Burst and Modulation. Each mode has a subtle difference. Usually a combination of these modes will work best to provide maximum short and long term pain relief. The TN11 also has 3 wave forms, the default wave is Symetrical Bi Phasic Rectangular so it can be used on or over metal prosethesis.
