Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat does TENS stand for? TENS stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation, and has successfully been used for many years by health-care professionals worldwide (including doctors, physiotherapists, Chiropractors and hospitals here in Australia) for many years. The electrodes should never be placed over the front of the neck as this can cause problems with blood pressure. How does it work? An electronic pulse stimulates the underlying nerve fibres via self-adhesive electrodes placed directly on the skin. The human brain registers this stimulation and floods the area with Endorphins – the body’s natural pain relief system. This disrupts the signal from the pain point to the brain, effectively reducing the sensation of pain. The process also stimulates circulation and oxygenates blood flow to the stimulated area resulting in faster recovery. How much pain relief will I get?
